Maddy's Big Girl Quilt

It's hard to believe, but my grand-daughter will be 2 in October. Almost time for a big bed!The top is done using the Sliced Coin QAL from Elizabeth at Don't Call Me Betsy.
My daughter picked out this beautiful and colorful line from Dena Designs called Kumari Garden.
The quilt was quick and easy and I loved making it ~ But all the time wondering ~ why do they grow up so fast???

  1. Beautiful quilt! Why is it that they're children for such a short time but teenagers for such a long time?

  2. Stunning in it's simplicity - I love the way you've allowed the fabric to shine, Maddy's going to be thrilled!

  4. It's a beautiful quilt! How lovely. Yes, they grow when we're not looking-and even when we are!

And I do love hyacinths, by the way!

  6. Hey! I recognize this pattern! I just made the same one (well, two, actually) but in baby size using some fabric I won in a giveaway (Farm Fresh by Riley Blake from Intrepid Thread). You can see my quilt top here ... http://heatheracton.blogspot.com/2011/08/one-becomes-two.html. If you scroll up and down a bit you'll see where I, too, reference Elizabeth's tutorial and you'll see the backing fabric and other ingredients I just purchased tonight.

I love the Kumari fabrics your daughter chose. So bright and cheerful for a "big girl". Very mature but fun. This is a fun and easy one to make. I'm a beginner at this so easy is a necessity.

  7. She made great choices - does she quilt too!? Or will it skip a generation?

  9. Maddie is going to love her new bed, especially with her special quilt! It's adorable. Thanks also for the one-seam pillow tutorial!

And...on a whim, my husband decided to plan a road trip to St. Louis tomorrow to play a round of golf with some business colleagues. I was going to ride along to hit up the Container Store. Can you recommend any quilt shops for me to visit while I'm there? I'd sure appreciate it!

  10. I love it!! Maddy likes it too. I showed it to her and she said, "yes. good." Maybe once it arrives it will be time to move her into a big girl bed! :)
