Sewing room pictures and some info!

I've got lots of pictures for you today! So I just threw them all in here and we'll start at the top...

What I'm working on...
The pattern is The Ikat Quilt from Stitched In Color. I'm using all blues (my favorite color :)

I created my design wall a little differently this time. We used a staple gun and stapled a large white flannel sheet to the wall all the way around. Then I simply covered the edge with 1/4" x 2" strips of wood and painted them gray. Simple, pretty and working great so far...

How about some more pictures of my sewing room. This was as-is, so here you go. It's a nice size room and I'm excited because I have enough space for my cutting table to sit in the middle of the room.

The "sewing" corner...

A corner for books, rulers and the big cabinet that holds finished quilts...

I often get asked about my ironing station. It's just a shelf unit that you can get at your home improvement store. On top is a 20" x 60" piece of MDF that's covered in one layer of batting and one layer of fabric. I make the fabric like an open-ended pillow case, so I can flip it and change it when its worn.

{Yes, I need to level these pieces and I think it needs a third "rainbowy" piece, don't you?}

I was excited the day my thread rack went up on the wall! This is the Martha Stewart Spool and Bobbin Storage rack.

A close-up of the minis over the sewing machine. And there's room for more!

More minis...

Fabric storage...

It took a while to get everything neatly folded and back in order. But, call me weird, I enjoyed doing it...

I think just about everyone has this rolling cart from Ikea in their sewing room. I used mine for current projects and newest fabric, hoping inspiration will strike if I look at it enough...

I'm a huge fan of Command Hooks, so when I found this method to hang quilts using them, I had to try it! I love how easy it was, and of course can be easily changed out...

See how nice it looks?

And finally, I've been painting some furniture and fallen for this Fusion Mineral Paint for furniture. I considered using chalk paint, since it's so popular, but then read about this one. A local store, Painted Poppies, carried it and I found that - it's cheaper, requires no waxing (making it even cheaper) and can go on any surface without priming. The colors are great and I'm super happy with the results! Just had to share...

  3. I like the way all your wall hangings have a bit of blue (teal) making them go together. Very beautiful space. Ready to come do mine? I'm going to look into the Fusion Mineral paint.

  8. I think you and I are of like minds when it comes to the satisfaction derived from organizing our spaces, don't you? I'm so happy that yours is coming along to the point that you are getting into your sewing mojo once again! That ikat quilt is on it's way to being another one of your showstoppers.

  10. Love your new sewing room and your Ikat quilt is so pretty and it is definitely an attention getter. Can't wait to get my new sewing room organized and seeing your room gives me lots to great ideas. Do you still have both sewing machines set up together?

  11. One of my favorite movie quotes is from "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion" when Michele says, "Let's fold scarves!" as though it is the most fun way ever to spend an afternoon. That's how I (sometimes) feel about straightening up my sewing room. I love your new room!

  13. You have a lovely sewing studio! It looks large, and seems to have good lighting. I too have that aqua Ikea cart. Mine holds a variety of tools: on the top shelf, my new Panasonic cordless iron; on the middle shelf, feet and bobbins for one of my two set-up sewing machines; and on the bottom, all my rulers for domestic machine quilting ruler work. Your cart is much prettier than mine, but oh-so useful. Enjoy creating and sewing in your cheery space! Thanks for sharing!

  14. Well then I'm weird too, because organizing my sewing room is not something I consider a task. Each time I decide to do another project and start going through my stash I find something new. That usually leads to an "aha" moment when I decide that I can organize the fabrics differently and be ready for the new projects to come. I love your studio! Lots of ideas from your pictures, thank you so much for sharing your talent.

  16. Hi Ya Cynth! :) Found you through FavQuilts and am smiling from ear to ear. Beautiful new place, loved reading more posts about how you landed in South Carolina. Your creative studio is WONDERFUL! Oh my stars, how wonderful this must feel. :) I am thrilled with/for you.
I adore Ellen's comment referencing "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion"!

  17. Your sewing room is really nice and has everything that any quilt maker would love. You even have several different quilt patterns in your room too. That is amazing and from the look of things, my grandma and you would get a long really well. She has a room like this and herself and she is always in there. She too has a bunch of quilt patterns as well.
