We've been exploring our new hometown and have been fascinated by the old mills that are peppered throughout the area. Greenville, SC has a rich textile history and finding the old mills that have been converted into living spaces has been a treasure. This one found in the Simpsonville area provided a nice backdrop for the quilt on a beautiful day.
I used a voile to back this one. It's the second time I've done that and again I'm finding that the quilt has a wonderful softness and drape unique to the voile.
We photographed a second finish the same day. I'll share that soon, along with a mini tutorial. Have a great weekend!
It's beautiful, Cindy! I've always thought of voile as such a delicate fabric. Is it sturdy enough for the back of a quilt that's going to get a lot of use?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about how it will wear. I guess time will tell! The voile is softer, but feels like good quality.
DeleteOh wow, it’s so beautiful! Love the blues!
ReplyDeleteStriking quilt and an interesting backdrop! How fun it must be to explore the area in and around your new home.
ReplyDeleteAll my favorite colors! Love love love....
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt! I'm not even a bit ikat fan normally, but this is great.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing this quilt in person, just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThats a stunner! Love the idea of using a voile fabric for the backing. Please let us know how it ends up wearing, cause I would likke to try that. I bet it drapes like a dream! What kind of batting would you suggest using with a more supple backing like that?
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt and the photos. I think it's always fun to find great locations to show off quilts.
