Colorway is a Thimbleblossoms pattern and I thought it would make a good stash buster quilt!
I started out with a palette of black, gray and pink. After making a few blocks, I had to add some aqua. I think my blood must run aqua :)
For the backing, I had this great Tula Pink print and I love how the design mimics the pattern.
I quilted all of the "spokes" with a back and forth figure-eight pattern, but struggled with a quilting design for the background. Several attempts resulted in major seam ripper use and I ended up going with the basic stippling. It really turned out great. I find with a pattern where you're trying to get the background seams to "disappear", any type of custom motif just seems to emphasize the seams. Lesson learned!
It was a fun one to make and made a bit of a dent in the stash!
Love it. Thanks for referencing the pattern. I may have to buy it.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your blood runs aqua too - as it makes this quilt very special. I love it. And how perfect is that background fabric. Nice designs with the quilting, they look perfect on the quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhoa!! I didn't know you wrote Gathered from the Garden! (I just noticed it on your side bar.) I made that quilt and it's my FAVORITE one. Oh - let me tell you that was one fun quilt to make. I LOVED your instructions, so easy to follow and understand. Even the scary bits (cutting on the 16th mark) turned out so super easy. Alright just so you know - you did a super great job designing and writing. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteHave this pattern in the list for this year. Love your version. I agree the backing fabric is great.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful!! And you are right, the backing is perfect!
ReplyDeleteVery nice Cindy. A quilt from your stash would not be complete with aqua in it!! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty quilt!
ReplyDeleteThe stippling worked out great, totally hiding the seams. The poor stipple has gotten a bad rap lately, but I find it to be very versatile and more importantly, easy to stitch.
I rejoice when I see a new post from you in my inbox. Every finish is delightful! Thanks for documenting and sharing your wonderful makes.
ReplyDeleteLovely, Cindy! That IS the perfect backing! :)
ReplyDeleteThe front's perfect, the back's perfect.....does it get any better than that? xo
ReplyDeleteLove the colors!
