Kisses Charity Quilt

I finished up another child's quilt for my MQG's "Quilts for Kids" charity drive. The block is a simple Plus Block, that's been turned on point to create  an "X" or "kiss".

I decided to add one 4" heart block using the tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew. Adding 1" borders around the heart brought it up to size with the 6" Kiss Blocks.

I think it came out cute and I was able to use up some smaller scraps.

The block is very simple and finishes at 6" square. If you'd like to make one, here are the measurements I used:

Plus pieces - two 1 1/2" x 2 1/8"; one 1 1/2" x 4 3/4"
Background - four 2 1/8" x 2 1/8"
Setting Triangles - two squares 4 1/2", cut once on the diagonal

After sewing on the setting triangles, trim the block down to 6 1/2" x 6 1/2"

  3. This is a very sweet quilt! Thank you Cindy for sharing the measurements to make the blocks! I just might try this as it does look very scrap friendly and happy.
Oh my, there are always so many kiddos going through some stressful times. These quilts are a comfort. As adults we really should try our best to maintain our own sanity and not over react to petty issues that do not serve our children's best interest. They need to grow up with healthy minds.
Again, thank you for sharing your adorable quilt. You are always so inspiring

  5. It came out very cute! Great idea to create a block and turn it on point by making a square in a square out of it.

  9. Very nice! I should do up the math to use up all my extra 2.5" strips and raid my scrap bag! So many quilts for kids, so little time (though I'm hoping to get a bunch of backs made and then quilt like the wind!

  11. Be still my beating heart! I have a couple of these blocks floating around, and every once in awhile I pull them out and wonder what to do with them. You've inspired me to look at them through new eyes.
