How I chose fabrics for a quilt...

Today I'm guest posting over at Stitch This, the Martingale blog. I'm often asked about how I select fabrics for my quilts. I rarely use an collection exclusively and love mixing in some stash fabric. I'm sharing my process over there!

I've been pulling some fabric for my next project using this piece as my inspiration...

Having "basics" in your stash is really helpful. I like to go through new fabric lines and buy the basics in my favorite colors. Here are some of my recent additions...

    I really love the Sun Print Feathers by Alison Glass. I am going to have to look for that the next time I am at the fabric store.

    Love your choices bases on your beautiful inspiration fabric. I've been doing a lot of the basics stash buiding myself lately and it really does help!

    Thank you so much for this post. I'm quite new to quilting so building up a stash seems an overwhelming task at times! It can be a challenge buying whole ranges of fabrics where I live, so encouragement to mix things up a little is also helpful!
