My "Slushie" and a Give away!

I've hinted about this quilt and give-away recently. Well, it's finally finished - slowed down by a couple of yards of missing thread!
The fabric line is "Hunky Dory". The pattern "Slushie" from A Baker's Dozen, written and published by Martingale and Company.

I just love how the design used a wide border around each of the alternate blocks. With this awesome floral to work with, the blocks look like matted and framed pieces of art.

I did lots of custom quilting!

A Baker's Dozen is filled with great projects using popular pre-cuts. You may think there are 13 projects, but no, these nice bakers give you 14! All beautiful! And the generous people at Martingale donated a book for me to give away. Just leave a comment - maybe you can let me know why you like to use pre-cuts. I'll draw a winner next Friday Aug. 13th. It may be your lucky day!

  3. That is a beautiful quilt! And I agree with you about the white 'frames', a nice way to highlight a special fabric. I like pre-cuts because I can get right to the sewing, and I don't have a GO! yet.

  4. Your quilt is fabulous! The quilting adds a great dimension to the overall design.

That looks like a great book for pre-cuts. I use the pre-cuts because I like having such a large sampling of the fabric line. It gives the quilt a little extra spice without breaking my budget.

  5. Your quilt is beautiful. I love the colors. I'm a little new to quilting and have just discovered the pre-cuts. I will have to order them online as none of the shops in town carry them.

  6. I generally don't use precuts, but if this book is inspirational, I might start. I do have a layer cake waiting to be baked into something! Kathie L in Allentown

I have that book and I never notice that quilt in the book before.

  13. What a beautiful quilt! I love to use precuts because I'm getting back into quilting after a 10 year hiatus. I also do a lot of mail order, so it's easy to order a jelly roll or layer cake.

  14. Wow, love the quilt, the colors are just beautiful. I love using pre-cuts, charm packs and jelly rolls, because you get to sample sooo many more fabrics!

  16. I must admit that I've never used precuts - but now that my time is very limited I'm looking for patterns that will simplify the cutting. I love the quilt you made and the quilt on the book cover is perfect.

  17. I have been eyeing this book - I love having new patterns for the precuts I get. I just can't help myself... I love having a little 5 inch square of every fabric in a collection. MUCH more affordable than buying a half yard/yard of each!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Just imaging buying a whole collection of a line so that a quilt looks good and the different colors go well together and having to buy a whole yard of each print. Personally I would only be able to afford like three lines a year and would soon be tired of these, while everywhere else online I would see what I could do with all the other collections that I couldn't afford. Really, the world needs precuts!

  19. I think I would really like that book, thanks so much for the opportunity to win it. I like precuts because you get all the fabric in a family without spending a great deal of money. Now that precuts are popular, I'm able to have more variety, I buy more families of fabric, not more fabric.

  20. mmmmm....slushie! it looks wonderful! i'm not a big fan that pattern, but it looks so beautiful here.

pre-cuts were sent from heaven. i LOVE not having to mess with a pile of material and all the tedious math and how to cut things to best utilize the material, and not to mention haveing to spend 3 days just cutting the pieces. Pre-cuts let us get right the fun part!

    thanks for an inspirational blog!

  21. I love precuts because I get to have pieces of each fabric from the whole line. Usually it helps to quicken the cutting process.

  22. I am a new quilter and so far have only used pre-cuts, I am only on my 3rd quilt. I don't have a huge cutting table, so this makes it so much less stressful for me. I also love the fact that the range of fabric you get is quite large.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm always looking for a way to use pre-cuts creatively. It seems like so many patterns are just sewing the squares together in boring rows. I've been eying this book every time I walk by the quilting book section too!

    ReplyDelete
  24. That quilt is super cute! I love how the flowers are 'framed'.

I adore pre-cuts due to the fact that cutting fabric, to me, is the DEVIL! That is my number one issue with quilting. I love sewing, buying fabric, quilting, and even binding, but I HATE cutting things out.

I would love this book! I've been thinking about purchasing this book, but if I have a chance at winning it, I'll just hope for that!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I simply like pre-cuts because half of the (miserable) cutting work is already done, and I can get on to the fun of peicing just that much quicker. Looks like a great book!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am so in need of inspiration right now, and hope I win. ... And the quilting on that little quilt is darling!

  45. Cindy,
The quilt is really nice. Like your quilting. I am trying to teach myself to machine quilt with my new Bernina 440. May take some time to get good enough to do any quilts, but I am willing to wait. I thought your quilt pattern might work with some fabrics I picked up in the Chicago area last month. Now, Just need the pattern. Keep up the good work.

  46.
