Now that those children are grown and have left town, and without a job to hold us here, we've decided to embrace a new adventure. A warmer climate and a new culture of "things to do". This Summer we'll be moving to Greenville, South Carolina. Why Greenville? We did lots of research online looking for a nice place to relocate and kept coming back to Greenville. It's a small city with a beautiful reimagined downtown, and when we visited a couple of months ago, we fell in love. There's a great article about the "hippest little city in South Carolina" here.
We've got a house going up and are super excited! And you know what I'm most thankful for? That I'm a quilter and I'll meet other quilters and quilters are super nice.
So yesterday instead of sewing, I did some "dequiltifying" in my sewing room to make it a bit more appealing to potential buyers. I love my room and thought I should take a few pictures before removing the design wall, mini quits and lots of special, personal items.
My pile of minis going into storage...
My "to-do" list will come back out in the new space...
The exciting thing is that the new house will have a nice big sewing room. So the future is looking super bright!
In the mean time, I'm trying to work on some smaller projects. Just for fun, I joined my first online swap/bee. It's called #iheartbandc {for Bonnie and Camille} and I found it on Instagram. We're making one swap package for one member of the group. I've started that and it will be ready to go next month...
We're also making a 12" block for two members of the bee each month and will have 16 blocks when we're finished.
I'm sure I'll see you here intermittently over the next few months and Greenville Modern Quilt Guild - can't wait to meet you!
Congratulations! My husband just retired a couple of weeks ago, and we are loving the new lifestyle already! Like you, I'll never retire from quilting...so there is plenty to keep me busy! It will be fun to see your new quilting adventures and sewing space in South Carolina! Best!
ReplyDeleteIf I saw that sewing room your house would be sold in an instant! Have only been to Greenville once but loved it! Good luck in all!
ReplyDeleteOh how exciting. I went to high school in Greenville and have lived in the Charleston area (you must visit) for over thirty years. We have a wonderful little Modern Guild here and would love to have you visit sometime. Greenville has grown up over the years and has lots to offer. The beach, Charlotte and Atlanta are all within a few hours. Good luck with selling your home and the move.
ReplyDeleteHow very exciting!!! I'm so happy for you & the hubby. I sold my house last summer and left my sewing room intact. My realtor said I had so many positive comments about the WIP on the design wall that she needed to suggest all her clients put up a design wall.. lol! The house sold in two days. My best wishes on this new adventure!!
ReplyDeleteDe-Quilt-ifying == such a cute word. You have a darling space to walk into, it just exudes creative juices sure to entice all lookers. Good luck with the sale of your home.

ReplyDeleteWelcome to South Carolina!
ReplyDeleteRetirement is wonderful. Someone told me, "I would need to take vacations from retirement, so don't get to busy at first." It has been so true. South Carolina is great, you will love it.
ReplyDeleteHello from another Cindy. We currently live in CA, but spent almost 30 years in nearby Spartanburg. We will retire next year and return to SC to be closer to our kids and grands..... You will love Greenville. See you next year at a quilt meeting!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so invigorating to make a big change in your life like that! But, it does take a while to decide where to go. We spent five years talking about it before we made a decision. It's certainly tough to be further from children and grandchildren. We moved from West Des Moines, Iowa to The Villages, Florida almost three years ago, and before we went sold nearly everything - furniture, family keepsakes, knick-knacks, traditional fabrics from my stash, garage items, a car, and our house. No regrets whatsoever. It's fabulous living in a warm climate. I hope you enjoy the adventure and make lots of new friends. All the best!
ReplyDeleteHow nice. You will definitely love the South. I have lived here all of my life, either in Alabama or Mississippi. Welcome to you both. Your quilting is beautiful, and I do enjoy your blog so much. Wising the best to you both on your move. Always looking forward to your blog posts.
ReplyDeleteWow, I know I am biased but I love the topic of real estate and correct me if I am wrong but a room should sell a place and this room, says come here, buy me, I want to stay in this room forever. I think you have however done a great job of cleaning it up, so there is no quilty mess, not that I know you or what it normally looks like. I must say I absolutely love your minis!!! And that color wheel quilt, do you know what pattern you used or is it one of your owns. Wait I will go and look in your pattern store! I really need something like that!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing Cindy and good luck with the move to Greenville. I love the South, North Carolina is great and South Carolina, I would like to explore more of the North of that state. The coast is lovely though.
Happy Spring greetings, from Switzerland.
Jodie

ReplyDeleteI have bought a bundle of Charley Harper Nuture and want to make a quilt using your Tutorial for the Charley Harper quilt.
Good luck with the move!
Congrats! You will be sooo happy you're moving here! My husband and I moved here six years ago and will never, ever leave. There is always something to do, the seasons are awesome, the people are friendly and....well, I'll just let you see for yourself!
ReplyDeleteYour only regret will be that you didn't move here sooner!
I'm excited for you! Y'all! But sad you're going.

ReplyDeleteSo exciting but we will miss you in the St. Louis area. thankfully thru the internet we can keep track of you and follow your wonderful adventures. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the pending move! I imagine you'll love it here in Greenville. In the years I've lived in the area (since 1998) and then now in G'ville proper (since 2008), the city has just gotten better and better. I hope to meet you once you're in town!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Y'all will LOVE Greenville - it's a great city! We live in Columbia but I attended college in the upstate! It's such a fun city! Welcome to SC!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your new adventure! I lived in St Charles and other parts of MO for 35 years. We are in the process, at very slow rate it seems, of moving to TX for my husband's job...not the coastal retirement spot I envisioned but I've met many fun quilters in TX! Best of luck to you.
