Some batt-less quilts

I reluctantly cut into my Lotta Jansdotter fabric - both Echo and Bella.
When you love a fabric so much are you also afraid to cut into it???

Luckily I only used half of each fat quarter, so I still have some left. And like always I have to add something new to a line of fabric. This was interesting because I'm not only looking for coordinating colors, but prints that have the same flavor. What I found is these graphic prints have no shades of color. White + one or two colors. So I added several prints from Modern Meadow with the same characteristic.

I was a little disappointed in the pattern I came up with. I was trying to get the look of the print rectangles sitting atop a band of gray. It took me a few days staring at the quilt to figure out why it didn't work perfectly. At first, I thought maybe the gray spacers were too small. But I really think they are too light. They blend with the prints and I think would have been better a bit darker. Do you agree?

I also finished up this kid quilt, using 3 UFO blocks. I'd like to donate a couple of quilts to the 100 Quilts For Kids event this year. This will be the first.

Also batt-less ~ these 2 blocks for Nancy in our Redbird Bee. Fun and easy!

Next up ~ find some batting and get these babies quilted!  . . . Cindy

  1. Loving both those quilt tops! The first pattern might not be quite what you were going for, but it's gorgeous all the same! I quite like the light grey spacers.

The circle of geese blocks look great too! Very cute and colourful quilt.

  4. I don't know Cindy....I'm thinking that if the gray were darker it would jump out at you. The color you chose is a great compliment to the lighter colors of the Bella fabric. It's really pretty as is your kid's quilt. The blocks are fun too!

  5. I love how the Modern Meadow navy prints play with the Echo...and I agree with Carla. The light gray is so soft and pretty with all those fabrics! Thanks - as always - for sharing!

  7. Great quilt. I agree though ( in the nicest possible way!) and would have either made the spacers larger in that same colour or gone up a shade or two (darker) to make them stand out a wee more.

  9. May not be what you imagined but if you can let that image go you will still see a beautiful quilt top!

I'm still hanging onto my echo - haven't got bella yet! But maybe when I have both I can bear to cut into it!

  10. I, too, hate to even think about cutting a fat quarter group. I have one very traditional right now that I am looking for a pattern for. I am wondering how your first pattern would look with it! I agree with you, a darker "brick" may have made the coins stick out more - maybe even black? Not sure - too bad you couldn't take a picture of it and then play with the pattern in a photoshop type program?! I really like what you did with the orphan squares - so child will be a very lucky recipient :D

  11. I love the prints you chose to coordinate with the Echo/Bella. A darker grey might have given you more contrast, but it also might have taken away some of the movement of the quilt that results from your color placement. As always, everything here is beautiful.
And, LOVE those blocks for Nancy!

  12. Love the way you have used the colors in this quilt - I think if you had used a darker grey it might have taken away from the subtly of this quilt - you should trust you instincts because they are definitely true for you, you make beautiful quilts, always!!

Also I hate cutting into my new fabrics, they usually spent many months on the shelf in admiration until the perfect quilt comes along!! I think that's normal isn't !! They are our babies after all!!
