Blue Diamonds

I'm calling this quilt "Blue Diamonds" and it was one of my last 2 quilts made in 2019.

The design evolved when I was playing in the quilt design program EQ8. I've been interested in creating some designs with half-rectangle shapes and was actually working on a Christmas Tree design with the blocks.

As I colored the patches this design started to emerge and of course I had to change it from green to blue. I loved how the diamond shapes were created simply by the play of light and dark. At that point, I abandoned the Christmas Tree quilt and made this one :)

I quilted it with straight lines that emerged from the upper right third of the quilt. I started with 1" spaced lines and went back and quilted again between each one, creating lines that are spaced 1/2" apart. I find I get much better results doing it that way.

The quilt is 48" x 48" making a nice size wall quilt.

  6. Such a pretty design, Cindy! I like your color choices, and the deep triangles. Your use of black makes those elongated pinwheels really stand out. I like your quilting too. As Anne said, it's very graphic - and that's a good thing by my way of looking at quilts!
