Tucker Prairie quilt update and more...

Thanks for all the love for my Tucker Prairie quilt! Many of you are planning on making it and looking for the pattern. And good news - it's pretty quick and easy.

As I mentioned the pattern was from the free patterns on Moda's website. You can see the original quilt and the line it was made from here.

**UPDATE** One of my followers found the pattern!! Here's the link:

You can see another pretty version of the pattern made by my friend, Cindy, here.

In other news...
Have you cut up your Kona Color Card? I know many have and rave about how easy it makes creating color combinations and matching solids. I've been so afraid to take scissors to mine, but finally did it! I'm using velcro to arrange them on a poster board to keep them tidy. I'm probably about halfway there!

I'd like to do some sewing from the stash and went through some favorite patterns that I've collected. My idea is to use the Kona color swatches to plan a color scheme and then pull from the stash coordinating fabrics.

In other news I'm slowly working on my Shimmer blocks...

And getting ready to quilt the Ikat quilt...

Thanks for stopping by!

Tucker Prairie

I fell hard for the Moda line Tucker Prairie when I first saw it last Spring in Market photos. It's designed by 1canoe2 and I've been a fan of their art since first discovering it. I was able to get a fat eighth bundle from Westwood Acres (I think it actually releases soon!) and the minute it arrived I knew I was going to make this quilt with it.

I've made this pattern before and gave the first one away. It's been one of my favorites and was a freebie on the Moda website a few years ago.

You can find the free pattern here:  Panache Quilt Pattern

I think the pattern really showcases the fabric nicely. The white is my go-to Moda Bella 97 and the gray is a new print from Zen Chic called Modern Backgrounds. I was lucky that my local quilt shop is carrying some awesome modern fabrics and didn't have to wait for it to arrive in the mail!

Now to figure out some quilting. I have a big gray and white check that I'm thinking of putting on the back. Can't wait to finish this one up!

New, New, New...

So many new things here. New city, new house, new friendships. I do love new, but sometimes miss the comfort that comes with familiarity and history. I remind myself of the familiar girl scout phrase, "Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold".

I'm finding that common question come up - "so what do you do?" And that funny look when you tell someone you're a quilter. How do you explain modern quilting in this day and age? I've stopped trying and just shake my head when they tell me their Grandmother was a quilter.

I seldom make quilts with a room in mind or a spot in the house. Except when I do a little redecorating. And with a new house, every room is a redecorating work in progress. So I've started a couple quilts with new rooms in mind. More new quilts...

I've always appreciated "minimalist quilts", but never have made one. I thought the family room could use a minimalist throw in teals, blues and grays and started on this...

It's quite easy and fun! I like how it's turning out...

And my Ikat quilt top is done. This will go at the foot of the bed in the master...

My Hello Darling fabric was calling my name. I decided to use "Shimmer" a pattern from Allison at Cluck Cluck Sew. It's a complicated block, that she made super easy. I'm enjoying putting these together.

Speaking of new, my blog has a new look thanks to Rebekah from Rebekah Louise Designs. She was so great to work with and gave me a brand new "look". I've added a new page called "My Quilts" and will keep adding some of my favorite quilts with a link to the blog post for more info. If you're in a reader, hop over sometime and let me know what you think!

I'm starting to feel good with the "new"...
